As a senior scientist within the Novel Human Genetics Research Unit you will be responsible for conducting experiments to drive new target discovery efforts forward, particularly within the renal, hepatic, metabolic, and cardiovascular therapeutic areas. This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include: Developing and executing biochemical and cell biology experiments, such as gene expression analysis, ELISA, immunoblotting, and high content cellular imaging, to identify and validate novel drug targets across a range of disease indications. Interpreting data from a wide variety of sources―including the scientific literature and human genetic association studies―to provide support for new discovery projects Communicating your data to highly motivated and enthusiastic matrix teams Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: BS/MS degree with 2+ years of experience in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular/cellular biology, immunology, or a related discipline. Experience in basic molecular biology methods, including PCR and nucleic acid isolation, and routine mammalian cell isolation and culture methods. Experience with the design and execution of biochemical and cell-based assays, including the application of enzyme activity and protein binding techniques, and the investigation of cellular signaling pathways using ELISA, immunoblotting, and gene expression analysis Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Experience with gene expression and genomic manipulation techniques, such as siRNA/shRNA, CRISPR, and lentiviruses Experience with the isolation and handling of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) Why GSK?
