If so, this Scientific Principal Investigator opportunity might be for you. Our Functional Genomics department at GSK comprises of several disciplines that provide the deep scientific knowledge and technical capabilities required to discover and validate potential novel therapeutic targets through the application of extensive genetic analyses, high throughput genome editing and endophenotyping in well-characterised human cellular and in vivo models. We aim to redefine how the industry approaches drug discovery to deliver transformative medicines for our patients by working together with our world-leading partnerships with the UK BioBank, 23andMe, Altius Institute, Open Targets, and the Laboratory of Genomics Research (LGR) with CRISPR pioneer Jennifer Doudna. Together, we can draw on genotypic and phenotypic databases to interrogate the genome. An exciting opportunity is available for a highly motivated and experienced stem cell scientist to lead our stem cell group as a Principal Investigator within the Translational Cell Sciences group at our US research hub. The successful candidate will be responsible for the conceptual design and execution, both directly and by leadership of a small team of scientists, of large scale functional genomics studies in stem cell model systems for target discovery, validation and pathway studies of critical importance to the GSK R&D pipeline, with a focus on genetically driven diseases in immunology and neurodegeneration. Working in this multi-faceted, dynamic, and cutting-edge scientific environment, this Principal Investigator role will give you the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career and include some of the following… Design and implement large-scale functional genomic and bespoke disease modelling studies, with a particular focus on immunology & neurodegeneration research priorities, employing physiological- and/or disease-relevant cellular models and assays Lead a team of stem cell biologists to deliver on multiple projects in priority disease areas for GSK, build productive collaborations with GSK scientific partners and external partners, locally and globally Work in a matrix team environment to drive timely delivery of project and department objectives to the highest scientific standard.
