Site Name: USA - Pennsylvania - Upper Providence, Belgium-Wavre, UK - London - Brentford, USA - Maryland - Rockville, USA - North Carolina - Research Triangle Park Posted Date: Mar 2 2022 . Associate Director, Global Demographic & Diversity Engagement Background: Significant health disparities persist across different demographic groups evidenced by worse incidence rates or outcomes in many chronic or communicable diseases. In this context, we also see the proportion of women, elderly, pediatric and racial/ethnic minorities included in industry-sponsored trials not reflective of the prevalence of disease in the underlying population. Despite an increased focus on opportunities in this area, industry still fails in highlighting differences in drug metabolism, variability in responses and safety amongst different clinical trial subpopulations. Ignoring diversity in a population is a missed scientific opportunity to fully understand the factors that lead to disease, health, and differential treatment responses. By 2020 minorities” will have accounted for over 40% of the US population. With the increased regulatory focus and expectations around diversity, addressing the existing gap is not only the right thing to do, it is also a scientific and business opportunity to progress differentiated medicines for all the patients that suffer the disease. Your Responsibilities: As Associate Director, Global Demographic & Diversity Engagement supported by the matrix Global Demographic & Diversity (“GDD”) team, you will leverage existing internal resources, programs and partnerships to shape, drive forward and execute the clinical development diversity strategy for improving the diversity of patients included in clinical trials. You will be the single point accountable person for identifying barriers and implementing strategies to transform the ways of working and the internal and external spokesperson for this important initiative. Additional key responsibilities include: Facilitate patient insights across the Medicines lifecycle through effective networking internally with key stakeholders (Discovery Medicines Lead, Clinical Development Lead, Value Evidence Lead, Global Medical Affairs Lead and LoC Patient Engagement Lead) and externally with patients. Manage disease state expert panels consisting of physicians, patients, care partners and advocates who will be our partners in the development of clinical trials and beyond - wherever “real-world” input would be beneficial Effectively guide colleagues on most appropriate patient engagement sources and approaches to meet specific business objectives Partners with global teams to ensure strategic alignment and appropriate understanding of physicians, patients and patient voice in patient related R&D activities and in the transition of patient engagement activity at the global level to the local one Drive the collaborations with communications agencies, disease-specific patient organisations, patient advocates, and patients not associated with organisations. Build upon digital efforts underway to identify target areas of need and clinical site metrics Includes effective two-way engagement with patients to ensure that patients receive valuable information and communication from GSK Collaborate with business units, (e.g. Epidemiology, Real World Evidence, Data and Analytics, Ethnopharmacology, Target Sciences) and senior stakeholders across the enterprise (Pharma, Consumer Health & Vaccines) to inform and educate staff on the importance of CTD and regulatory requirements of enrolling patients across diverse demographics Build trust with patient advocacy groups and community organizations with a focus on health disparities Maintain a repository of best practices on Clinical Trial Diversity (CTD) and share across the enterprise. Why You? Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree Four or more years of experience in Healthcare & Life Sciences OR Patient Communications Preferred Qualifications Five or more years of experience communicating and developing strategies for the translation of customer experience data into value for both customers and the business. Genuine interest, understanding and motivation to address the multifaceted challenge of Clinical Trial Diversity Empathic and credible leader with strategic thinking and excellent communication skills and gravitas.
