The Novel Human Genetics Research Unit (NHG-RU) is seeking a cell biologist with strong expertise in various high content imaging platforms and experience with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC). The successful candidate will be a high content imaging lead user and interact with colleagues from multiple disciplines e.g. AI/ML, statistics, etc. to design, run and analyze high content imaging experiments to support the preclinical phase of drug development. As a cell and tissue biologist, one of your major goals will be to develop and use human relevant models increasing the probability that your data will translate to patients. As such, you will utilize primary human cells, iPSC and stem cell derived cells to drive drug discovery programs across therapeutic areas. Key responsibilities: Characterize and validate iPSC-derived cell models either independently or in collaboration with CROs and other team members Evaluate and compare various human multicellular platforms Design high content imaging acquisition and analysis protocols Maximize information from imaging readouts by engaging colleagues from the AI/ML and Research Statistics teams Independently execute laboratory experiments, conduct statistically supported data analysis and deliver results in a timely manner to enable informed decision making Contribute to the development of high content imaging community within NHG-RU Clearly record in electronic lab notebooks and communicate study results at internal and external meetings Commit to continual improvement by reading and applying the latest scientific literature, methodologies and technologies Comply with all standards and practices of data integrity, ethics, and safety Model GSK's values of patient-focus, respect, transparency, and integrity Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for motivated scientists with the following skills: MS degree At least three years experience in a pharmaceutical company performing duties related to human cell biology and high content imaging acquisition and analysis Three or more years of experience in confocal microscopy, image analysis software and high content imaging (e.g. cell painting), Spotfire 11.4.1. Three or more years of experience utilizing applications of data science and visualization techniques to high content imaging data. At least one year experience with human iPSC culture and differentiation (i.e. into neural cells or liver cell types). Preferred Qualifications: PhD or equivalent in cell biology An ability to independently design, execute and interpret high-quality experiments is essential Strong communication skills, and experiences with analytic software used to visualize complex data set Evidence of leading new technology initiatives, working with commercial partners to evaluate and implement new technologies relevant to high content imaging. Extensive practical experience in the experimental design, execution and data analysis. Experience with high-throughput screening and robotic platforms Proven track record of teamwork, adaptability, innovation, initiative, and integrity. Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of the immediate team to support and influence projects. Learns fast, grasps the "essence" and can change course quickly where needed. Raises the bar and is never satisfied with the status quo. Open to suggestions and experimentation to drive the science in the field of interest. Highly committed, enthusiastic, self-motivated, inspirational and demonstrate a passion for learning.
