If so, this role could be an ideal opportunity to explore. An exciting opportunity is available within Structural and Biophysical Sciences, which is part of Medicine Design at the GSK US R&D hub in Upper Providence, Pennsylvania. GSK is seeking a highly motivated and creative structural biologist to impact drug discovery programs through delivery of high-resolution structural data and integration of structural data with results from partnering groups. Our department combines structural biology with biophysical data to understand and optimize interactions between drug targets and small molecule hits, leads, and candidates to support discovery across all therapeutic areas under investigation at GSK. Our group interacts broadly with project teams consisting of biologists, medicinal chemists, biochemists, and computational chemists to discover and optimize novel therapeutics. This position requires excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills and the ability to influence diverse drug discovery teams using robust science. This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following: Solve x-ray crystal structures from in house and synchrotron diffraction data sources using molecular replacement and experimental phasing methods for protein:ligand, protein:protein, and protein:nucleic acid complexes. Initiate structural biology on new programs by working with computational and biochemical scientists to design protein constructs and build comprehensive plans to yield structural data relevant to the discovery campaigns. Carefully design and carry out experiments to integrate structural and biophysical mechanisms to generate actionable information for the advancement of drug discovery campaigns. Characterize purified protein drug targets and protein:ligand interactions using biophysical methods. Prepare research reports, give internal and external presentations, champion and contribute to publications. Maintain current knowledge of structural biology literature to keep abreast of new technologies well suited for drug discovery and the GSK R&D strategy. Implement creative new methods, protocols, and technologies to advance the efficiency, speed, and success-rate of structural biology techniques for complex systems. Interact with business partners including therapeutic-area focused research units, biophysicists, medicinal chemists, and counterpart technology groups. Liaise and consult as a representative to program teams. Why You?
