Summary

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will be responsible for scientific exchange with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), education of health care providers and other key stakeholders on Spark gene therapy products, disease states of interest, genotyping initiatives, and clinical research support. The MSL functions as a regional medical and scientific resource who supports the changing needs of healthcare professionals with available Spark resources.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic medical support for key stakeholders across the MSL regional area, in coordination with home office medical leadership.
  • Provides medical support and expertise to internal functions (e.g., field sales, marketing) for marketed products and to clinical operations for drugs in development.
  • Has a regional scope and is responsible for a subset of Spark’s therapeutic areas as agreed upon
  • Serves as a key field therapeutic lead that will work closely with the Therapeutic Lead and the Head of MSLs.
  • Consistent and exemplary execution of the field medical territory coverage
  • Interact with appropriate professional organizations and advocacy groups to best support gene therapy awareness and educational initiatives in collaboration with relevant internal stakeholders
  • Support development of integrated medical strategic and tactical plans requiring strategic coordination with Medical Communications, Publications, HEOR MIS, Clinical Studies Unit, and Home Office Medical Affairs for assigned area.
  • Understand medical and business strategy to develop regional medical plans that support agreed goals
  • Develops unique field medical tactics/concepts for consideration, champion innovative ideas, and provide continuous improvement recommendations on an ongoing basis
  • Supports field medical representation at relevant internal meetings to share external field insights, KOL perspectives and correlating business recommendations
  • Collaborates with field medical leadership and home office medical teams to develop medical tactics/initiatives that align with medical strategy
  • Coordinate Medical Affairs proactive/reactive content development in collaboration with relevant internal stakeholders
  • Liaise between Field Medical colleagues, Medical Information Services and Field Medical Leadership to provide input on Medical Information Letter needs, and ensure they are relevant, complete and up to date.
  • Support medical unit by assisting with content review at MAT and CAT
  • Support the medical communications and publication strategies by providing external environment needs
  • Demonstrates strong scientific/technical expertise, advanced understanding of clinical knowledge about Spark products, disease state management and the broader therapeutic area
  • Create and maintain scientific partnerships with key medical, pharmacy, and healthcare professional organizations which includes response to medical requests, dissemination of verbal or enduring MAT approved educational resources in response to medical needs, and coordination of US Medical Affairs research collaborations
  • Consistently and appropriately partners with Spark field and home office colleagues regarding shared stakeholders, learnings and insights in a manner that is fully adherent with all Field Interactions Policies and SOPs
  • Ability to effectively represent the needs of healthcare providers to NA/US Medical Affairs and other Spark colleagues ensuring that unmet needs are identified, understood, and prioritizedwith relevant internal stakeholders
  • Liaise between Field Medical colleagues, Medical Information Services and Field Medical Leadership to provide input on Medical Information Letter needs, and ensure they are relevant, complete and up to date.
  • Support medical unit by assisting with content review at MAT and CAT

Education and Experience Requirements

  • PharmD, PhD, or MD in a scientific discipline typically has 5years related industry experience or a BS/MS with 7years of industry experience, typically candidate has 3years proven MSL experience
  • Travel 60% or greater, including domestic and international travel as needed.

Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

.

  • Understanding and ability to implement field medical tactics/activities which include, but not limited to: Disease state, current therapies, outcomes, and basic health economic parameters.
  • Ability to operate autonomously within region and manage moderate to heavy administrative duties including travel and calendar management, independently arranging frequent meetings with external stakeholders
  • Ability to interpret and translate data and complex scientific concepts into clinically relevant messages
  • Understanding of highly regulated pharmaceuticals environment.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain relationships with medical community.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills required
