The School of Medicine at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) in New Orleans seeks applications for a postdoctoral researcher position to perform experiments related to the central nervous system in blood pressure regulation and in gene modifications leading to neuro-cardiovascular deregulation. The incumbent should have a background in molecular biology, neurophysiology, a strong interest in generating hypotheses and addressing research questions of high complexity. Work will include formulation and testing of hypotheses using tools spanning omics arrays (RNAseq, miRNA, methylation), targeting of specific neuronal networks using state-of-the-art approaches (optogenetics, chemogenetics, fiber photometry), cell culture, and data analysis. The incumbent will be trained on the responsible conduct of research and ethics in research and will be required to participate in the departmental seminar series. In addition to the technical training, the incumbent will be mentored to write scientific manuscripts and to submit grant applications.
Research interests include the molecular and physiological roles of angiotensin converting enzyme type 2 (ACE2) in neuro-cardiovascular regulation in vivo and in vitro. Dr. Lazartigues’ lab uses a combination of molecular, genetic and physiological approaches including the generation of unique transgenic and knockout models, cardiovascular and neurophysiological techniques (mouse telemetry, cardiovascular function assessment, brain microinjections, microdialysis), gene therapy tools including but not limited to siRNA and viral transfection, molecular and recombinant DNA methodology, immuno- histochemistry and biochemical methods.
