Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease, and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health.

SBP’s NCI-designated Cancer Center seeks a leader of a planned “Center for Excellence” in spatial -omics. SBP is making a substantial investment in state-of-the-art technologies for in situ highly multiplex transcriptomic and proteomic spatial and single cell analysis, including Nanostring GeoMx, Nanostring CosMx and CODEX. The new Leader will be responsible for establishing functionality of these platforms at SBP, making them available to Institute faculty and keeping pace with new developments in this fast-moving field. The Center Leader will interface with Institute faculty and scientists, and be responsible for providing expertise, consulting, training, and high-quality service to users. In addition to spatial -omics, the Center will provide researchers a variety of NGS technologies including dissociative single-cell transcriptomics and epigenomics. The Center Leader will be responsible for providing core services, supervising the other staff members, and evaluating, developing, and implementing new state-of-the-art technologies that can expand the Center’s capabilities and staff.  The Leader will also oversee investigator training and outreach, operating and maintaining equipment, and developing/monitoring the Center’s usage and budget.

  • Oversees core staff training and development, supervision, and evaluation

Required Experience

  • Requires a PhD in a relevant scientific discipline and a minimum of three years of cumulative, progressive postdoctoral and/or industry experience in genomics, epigenomics or transcriptomics, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained
  • Demonstrated experience as an accomplished team member performing genomics analysis in an academic environment, core facility, or in the private sector, and proven ability to implement new technologies
  • Must have a demonstrated in-depth understanding of the theory and practice of next-generation sequencing, from library preparation to sequencing to initial data quality control, and the ability to independently design and perform a variety of experiments
  • Requires the ability to simultaneously manage a variety of large, complex projects and the ability to effectively perform duties and tasks independently as well as in large, collaborative teams
