The Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent role as a Senior Scientific Researcher. The role would ideally be suited to someone with a passion for genetics, and who has an interest in preventative healthcare, identifying actions that can help meet the health goals and needs of customers. They would also be expected to be a proactive, forward-thinking person, with an eye for success in an emerging industry.

This will be a challenging and varied post where an eye for detail is essential. You will need to have an ability to work both independently and as part of the wider science team, and contribute to both the product development and research pipelines at FitnessGenes.

 

The day-to-day role will include:

  • Managing the research agendas within the R&D team at FitnessGenes
  • Working with and supporting the CSO in building new products and research pipelines
  • Researching the current state-of the art in medical genetics and genomics
  • Evaluating and presenting research back to the R&D team at FitnessGenes
  • Analysing the data sets produced by FitnessGenes
  • Prepare research papers based on inhouse research
  • Collaborate with University partners on research projects

 

Skills and qualifications:

  • A PhD degree involving at least one of the following: Genetics, Medical Genetics, Genomics, Rare Diseases, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Statistical Genetics or equivalent
  • An excellent knowledge of genetics and genomics
  • The ability to independently design and write scientific papers
  • Experience of working in research teams
  • Experience with large data sets
  • Data visualisation skills
  • Excellent communication skills

 

Nice to have:

  • Programming skills

 

Hours:

Full time (37.5 hours). For the right candidate, part-time hours would also be considered.

33 days holiday a year, inclusive of any statutory bank/public holidays. Working hours are those necessary to undertake the role, usually Monday-Friday 9.30am to 5.30pm, but some weekend/evening work may occasionally be required. We are a family friendly business and flexible working will be considered.

 

Location:

We would expect at least part of your week to be spent working from our shared office space in Bicester, Oxfordshire, and/ or in London, Southbank. However, this role is open to remote working meaning you aren't required in the office 5 days a week. We would welcome a conversation with the successful candidate on what pattern of working would suit their personal needs.
