We have been recognized as the best hospital in the nation for 2022-2023 by U.S. News and World Report. Our unified mission is to provide the best patient care, backed by our expertise and supported by innovation in education, research and practice, to bring hope and healing in times of need. We support a vibrant and diverse research enterprise, with programs in basic, translational, clinical, and data sciences. In 2021, the institution received over $600 million in extramural research awards, supplemented with over $405 million of institutional support. Mayo Clinic has a world class faculty, laboratories, and state-of-the-art core facilities and biorepositories. The successful applicant will have access to the resources of 22 Research Centers including the Center for Biomedical Discovery, Center for Individualized Medicine and the Center for Regenerative Medicine. The Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences trains and supports PhDs and MD/PhDs.

Mayo Clinic offers an outstanding, comprehensive benefits package that includes plenty of options for medical, dental and vision care; flexible spending accounts; life insurance; short- and long-term disability coverage; generous time away; and more! We are proud to be among the few U.S. companies to provide a pension benefit at no cost to employees plus you can add the Mayo 403(b) plan which features an employer match. The Research shield at Mayo Clinic is committed to creating an inclusive and equitable environment and recognizes that diverse research teams make better decisions; are more equipped to solve complex problems and adapt to change; and produce better outcomes.

Mayo Clinic is making significant investments in both the physical and technological future of health care, through doubling the size of the Mayo Clinic campus in Phoenix, inclusive of practice, education, and research activities. Mayo Clinic's campuses in Arizona are located in Phoenix and Scottsdale, in the beautiful Sonoran Desert. The region is known as the Valley of the Sun, a metropolitan area with more than 4 million residents in 25 cities and towns.

Mayo Clinic is recruiting an institutionally supported faculty position at its Arizona campus to develop a cutting-edge research program in immunoengineering and strategies to promote immune tolerance.  We seek energetic and innovative investigators who will introduce, advance, and implement novel engineering approaches to modulate or eliminate the need for long-term immunosuppression. Examples of research areas of interest include cellular engineering to enhance immune cell tolerogenic functions; development and targeted delivery of immunomodulatory biomaterials; and development of biologically relevant test platforms for immunoengineered therapeutics. Successful candidates will be expected to establish an internationally recognized research program that emphasizes trans-disciplinary collaboration between scientists, clinician investigators and clinicians in their primary department as well as in relevant clinical and basic science departments and centers from across the institution.

Credentials of a successful candidate will include a doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D., Sc.D., or equivalent) with background in a relevant science and/or engineering field (e.g. immunology, biomedical engineering, cell biology, physiology, nanotechnology). Applications from emerging investigators are welcome, as are applications from more established investigators for whom a record of extramural funding consistent with or preferably exceeding the candidate’s career stage is expected. Candidates should exhibit evidence of leadership skills and multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborations. Consideration will be given to candidates at the Assistant, Associate and Full Professor level.  Academic rank, salary, and start-up package will be commensurate with experience.

The candidate will join a diverse team of physicians and scientists to drive improved outcomes for recipients of vascularized composite allografts and other organ transplants. Mayo Clinic Transplant Center (Scottsdale/Phoenix, AZ; Jacksonville, FL; and Rochester, MN) is the largest integrated transplant provider in the nation and every year, more than 150 surgeons and physicians and hundreds of allied health staff perform more than 2,000 solid organ and bone marrow transplants so there is excellent opportunity to leverage extensive resources. The successful candidate will have opportunities to not only establish and maintain a highly recognized research program, but also to integrate with existing institutional strengths in immunology, physiology and biomedical engineering, and regenerative medicine.

This faculty position includes substantial long-term institutional and departmental support for salary, personnel, equipment and travel as well as a competitive startup package all designed to ensure immediate and continued success of the candidate. Additional benefits for faculty at Mayo Clinic include intramural funding opportunities for research projects and instrumentation. The candidate will be strongly encouraged to explore entrepreneurial opportunities aligned with Mayo Clinic’s 2030 vision to Cure, Connect, and Transform.

Applications should include a cover letter, CV with bibliography, names and contact information of four references, and statements of your research interests and contributions to equity, inclusion and diversity. Over the next four years, Mayo Clinic is making significant investments in both the physical and technological future of health care, through doubling the size of the Mayo Clinic campus in Phoenix, inclusive of practice, education, and research activities. Mayo Clinic's campuses in Arizona are located in Phoenix and Scottsdale, in the beautiful Sonoran Desert. The region is known as the Valley of the Sun, a metropolitan area with more than 4 million residents in 25 cities and towns.

With Phoenix being the sixth largest city in the nation, this sunny "desert metropolis" offers the amenities of a big city in the midst of a strikingly beautiful, rugged, southwest landscape.

Scottsdale frequently earns praise as a highly desirable place to live. The city's more than 200,000 residents enjoy a vibrant mix of culinary hot spots, arts and entertainment, professional and collegiate sports teams, and community resources. The region's desert climate promotes an outdoor lifestyle with a full complement of sports and recreation.
