The MIT Department of Chemical Engineering (ChemE) seeks a lecturer to add to the flexibility of teaching and scheduling in the department.  This will include participating in teaching primary sophomore and senior core courses (complementing a senior lecturer’s efforts in 10.10 and/or 10.490 or 10.450) and participating in lab courses (10.26/27/29) or intro classes (10.00). 

The role includes providing lab support, engaging new teaching and experiential learning methods, being a champion for the evolving maker community at MIT, working with students to evaluate their laboratory experience and proposing improvements in line with their concerns, maintaining office hours for student support outside of laboratory and classroom hours, and performing other duties as needed.  

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering
  • Broad knowledge base in core areas of chemical engineering
  • Teaching experience
  • Ability to lecture introductory- and intermediate-level chemical engineering courses such as those on heat, mass and energy balances or chemical engineering thermodynamics and to maintain a laboratory focus relevant to introductory or upper-level design labs
  • Strong laboratory and teaching skills at the undergraduate level related to basic chemistry, chemical and biochemical engineering, and bioreactors for pharmaceutical, energy, and other current chemical engineering applications
  • Proficiency with instrumentation and software used for laboratory data analysis and content delivery
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for facilitating the safe exploration of lab concepts by undergraduate students
  • Ability to write laboratory instructional material
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-based environment 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • M.S. or Ph.D.
