Postdoctoral Research Associate

Job Description: The Dorn laboratory at the Washington University in St. Louis Center for Pharmacogenomics investigates the role of mitochondrial dynamics (fusion, fission, trafficking) in heart and neurological disease. Our major research target is mitofusin (MFN) proteins that regulate mitochondrial fission, mitophagy, and mitochondrial trafficking. Our overall goal is to understand how mitochondrial dysdynamism and mitophagy defects cause disease, and to develop the means to alleviate those conditions. Our highly interactive researchers have discovered molecular mechanisms by which mitofusins are regulated, developed peptides and small molecules that allosterically modulate mitofusin activity, and used these tools to reverse mitofusin dysfunction in disease-relevant systems. Pre-clinical models routinely employed include cultured rodent neurons and cardiomyocytes, reprogrammed human neurons, and knock-in, knock-out, and conditional transgenic mouse models. Our trainees gain cutting edge expertise in molecular and cell biology, advanced imaging, bioinformatics/multiomics and integrated cardiac and neurophysiology, with deep exposure to human genetics. Each trainee and every project benefit from a collaborative environment and personal attention.

We are looking to add 2 highly motivated and experienced individuals at the post-doctoral or Research Associate level who will apply novel tools and new investigative models in basic or pre-clinical research projects broadly related to mitochondrial dynamism. Candidates interested in bench studies of cardiomyopathy or neuropathy will be positioned for rapid success.

Qualifications: Well-funded positions are immediately available. Candidates will work independently and interactively in a team setting that emphasizes enthusiasm for the research. A PhD (or equivalent) in molecular/cell biology, physiology, or related field is required. Salaries are attractive and commensurate with experience.
