Summary

The Aiden and Nir labs (UTMB) collaborate to study 3D genome organization and how its modulation can influence cell fate, are looking to hire a research scientist to oversee operations in our new Southeast Texas chromosome tracing core. The Aiden lab is part of the Department of Human and Molecular Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. The Nir lab is a member of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UTMB located in Galveston, Texas. The Staff Scientist will travel between the two labs during each month, not typically on a daily basis.

Job Duties

  • Design chromosome tracing projects
  • Maintain microscopes with their integrated fluidics units (mostly commercial microscopes)
  • Conduct Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) experiments
  • Perform in vitro amplification (PCR, T7 amplification, RT, gel electrophoresis, etc.)
  • Train students to use the microscopes, the fluidics, and the in vitro amplification
  • Assist with writing grants and protocols, and lab management tasks
  • Other duties may include administrative work, such as writing grants, protocols, and ordering reagents


Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Computational skills and programming (Matlab, python, etc.) are a plus but not necessary
  • Ph. D. in a relevant field (e.g., biophysics, molecular genetics, biochemistry, etc.)
