Overview Princeton University's School of Engineering and Applied Science - recently launched the Princeton Bioengineering Initiative to highlight and enhance trailblazing research at the intersection of human health and society. Princeton Bioengineering Initiative is seeking an Assistant Director to work closely with the faculty Director of this initiative to establish and shepherd Bioengineering programs and oversee Bioengineering's day-to-day operations. Bioengineering will be growing and evolving rapidly over the coming years and this position will assist in hiring processes for adding faculty, staff, and researchers as well as coordinate the move into a newly built building specifically designed for modern bioengineering research. The candidate must have the capacity to help envision and develop new programming, coordinate new interdisciplinary initiatives, and establish and foster marketing and branding strategies. This person will develop the initiative's budget in collaboration with the Director and be responsible for the careful and appropriate management of funds and resources and coordinate grant proposal production. The Assistant Director will perform and oversee day-to-day operations; cultivate high-profile research collaborations and public events, often with other Princeton departments and centers as well as external institutions; and manage public communications, website and print materials. The Assistant Director will be able to represent the Director at meetings, present at programs, report results, and exchange information with University representatives and the broader Bioengineering research community. Responsibilities Management and Administration: * Oversee and coordinate the Princeton Bioengineering Initiative — Innovators (PBI2), Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellows program including advertising materials, review committee details, interview logistics, and onboarding process. * Partner with the Director to create new collaborations with industry representatives; assist with relationship cultivation and management. * Coordinate visits involving sponsors, high-ranking university representatives, visiting scholars, government and industry personnel, student collaborators, and others. * Participate in the development and enhancement of standard operating procedures and guidelines for all matters related to Bioengineering. * Assist with future growth of Bioengineering faculty, administrative and technical staff appointments. Direct supervision and management of administrative staff. * Coordinate move into new Bioengineering building in ~2025 Research and Events: * Oversee the planning, coordination, organization, and execution of high-profile events activities, including lecture series, symposium, seminars, and colloquia. * Cultivate research collaborations and joint public events with other institutions. * Provide programmatic support to the Director and coordinate the initiative's research efforts and activities to establish and achieve common goals and milestones. * Facilitate online/virtual events. * Staff in-person events and provide on-site management and logistics support. Academic Curriculum: * Work collaboratively with Director to create and administer an academic Bioengineering curriculum for undergraduate and graduate students. * Create and administer undergraduate research programs in Bioengineering. * Oversee curriculum requirements, tracking, reporting, and metrics. Communications: * Direct the preparation and distribution of marketing, communications and promotional materials to constituents in support of Bioengineering activities, via website, printed materials, written correspondence, digital communications platforms, and social media. * Provide editorial oversight for all communications related to Bioengineering. Budget and Financial Management: * Develop and oversee the initiative's budget in collaboration with the Director and be responsible for the careful and appropriate management of funds and resources. * Direct the day-to-day operations, with responsibility for administrative support functions and details of project management including project financial status and purchasing decisions. * Oversee collaborative research funds proposal process and funding. * Prepare and draft correspondence and written reports (annual report, stewardship reports, etc.), and analyses of the effectiveness of various funding programs. Qualifications Essential Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree and minimum of 5+ years of experience * Ability to interact and function in a cross-disciplinary academic environment. * Strong organizational and management skills and good judgment; demonstrated project planning skills; responsiveness with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner. * Confident, articulate, and professional written and verbal communication skills. * Strong personal initiative; self-motivated and self-directed; unwavering commitment to excellence. * Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, and discretion; appreciation for the values of higher education and sensitivity to the nuances of academic culture. * Active listening skills to develop and maintain relationships and build trust and credibility with a diverse set of stakeholders. * High level of emotional intelligence, judgment and strategic agility. Ability to resolve conflict thoughtfully and with minimal disruption. * Leadership, management, and staff development skills which exhibit qualities of integrity, trustworthiness, respect and team collaboration. * Ability to work with confidential information, manage information and data. * Proven ability to work independently with limited supervision; capacity to multi-task and manage competing priorities while consistently delivering results.
