Summary

The Department of Medicine, Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas is currently searching for a laboratory manager. The selected candidate will be responsible for an array of duties necessary to the function of the laboratory. The candidate should be knowledgeable in basic laboratory, cell culture, and molecular biology techniques. The candidate must also know how to organize orders and manage lab operations. The laboratory manager supervises graduate student rotations and provides essential experimental input for all trainees/learners in the environment.

Job Duties

  • Guides biochemical and molecular biological research in support of a research project on adipose tissue biology and immunology.
  • General lab management and maintenance of the transgenic animal colonies and manages equipment.
  • Trains laboratory personnel, orders supplies, and organizes routine day-to-day operation.
  • Consults with faculty to purchase and maintain equipment
  • Trains laboratory personnel in the use and care of equipment
  • Consults with faculty to prioritize ordering based on budget
  • Maintains laboratory databases for data management
  • Confers with faculty to evaluate new equipment and methods
  • Establishes relationships with vendors to address supply and equipment needs for the laboratory
  • Manages safe laboratory practices and ensure compliance with safety regulations


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience, with prior supervisory experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in a science or science-related discipline is preferred.
  • Experience is favored over advanced degrees.
  • Two years of Laboratory Supervisor or above experience is also preferred.
  • Great communication skills, well-organized, team player and reliable
