A muscle and cardiovascular biology postdoctoral fellowship position is immediately available in the laboratory of Hansell Stedman, MD, FACS, Department of Surgery, Penn Cardiovascular Institute and Pennsylvania Muscle Institute. The main goals are to improve the understanding of the biomechanics of dystrophin and to use novel insights in the development of safe and effective gene therapy for dystrophin-deficient cardiomyopathy and respiratory failure, with the ultimate goal of clinical translation Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. We are using complementary approaches to the rational design of next generation vectors to address the shortcomings of candidate therapies tested in recent clinical trials. The proposed projects offer exceptional career growth opportunities for highly motivated candidates seeking to build on a solid foundation of doctoral work in the fields of neuromuscular disease, cardiovascular physiology, molecular/structural biology, immunology, and/or virology. We seek applicants with strongly supportive references and a track record of primary authorship.
