JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Research Activities

-Work with the Principal Investigator in the experimental direction of laboratory research projects.
-Independently designs and initiates research experiments.
-Lead and oversee research on studies that require cell culture, high throughput drug screens, genomic library preparation, and molecular mutagenesis including CRISPR/CAS9.
-Develop transgenic mouse models.
-Keep abreast of new technologies to enhance research efforts.
-Oversee scientific progress in the lab.
-Oversee quality of research experimental design.
-Assign and review the work of lab personnel and monitor research progress.
-Develop and maintain standard procedures and protocols to ensure the quality and integrity of procedures performed and the overall operation of the lab.
-Lead and work collaboratively with research lab manager to ensure maintenance of equipment and supply inventory.
-Oversee proper laboratory techniques are followed for the use of laboratory equipment, and safety procedures.
-Maintain assertiveness and flexibility in approaching new techniques and responsibilities, utilizing good work habits and time management skills.
-Ensure safety procedures are followed for chemicals and hazardous in the laboratory.

Personnel and Research Progress Management

- Collaborates with Primary Investigator to recruit and hire laboratory personnel.
-Manages Postdoctoral Fellows and Graduate Students in the laboratory.
-Determines specific goals or objectives to be obtained and evaluates research data and develops and revises techniques or approaches to work problems.
-Manage day-to-day tasks of students & fellow personnel.
-Assign and review the work of subordinates and monitor workflow.
-Reviews and evaluates research activity of fellow and graduate students.
-Functions in a separate and independent manner in the design and initiation of research experiments.
-Plan and supervise the training of subordinate personnel with respect to proper laboratory techniques, the use of laboratory equipment, and safety procedures.
-Monitor and anticipate laboratory needs in terms of equipment and supplies.

Maintenance of experimental records and presentation of findings.

-Maintain an up-to-date, organized, and legible laboratory journal that records all experiments in detail and ensure that subordinates do the same.
-Utilize image analysis system and/or microscope to analyze data and examine results.
-Compile, write, and submit project results to supervisor.
-Prepare scientific documents and manuscripts for publication.
-Presents findings of research projects to professional groups and prepares scientific documents for publication.
-Maintain an up-to-date, organized, and legible laboratory journal that records all experiments in detail and ensure that subordinates do the same.
