The primary purpose of the Research based Program Manager position is to provide scientific and research development, input, and writing for trials and research projects with the primary Principal Investigator. The scope of work will include the development, planning, submission, and follow-through of multi-investigator/project/ grant applications and proposals to federal/state sponsors, industry, and philanthropy, based on scientific and research collaborations. Follow-through activities will include facilitating project implementation, reporting, and other stewardship activities, as applicable along with the PI. The research scientist-based components include organizing, coordinating and participating in scientific research projects. Activities could include reviewing and evaluating research activity of collaborating laboratory and research personnel. The individual would understand specific goals or objectives of the projects, and assist in evaluating research data and help develop and revise techniques or approaches to work problems. Individual would be able to functions in an independent manner in the coordination and initiation of research projects under the supervision of the PI. The qualified individual will partner effectively with faculty researchers, administrators, and other staff research team members across the department, institution, and beyond, as needed to support execution of programs. Activities include serving as a bridge between the research clinical trial team (research nurse/clinical study coordinator), biospecimen collection team, and faculty study collaborators and the labs. Oversight or integration into the logistical aspects (trial operations) to the scientific (study endpoints/analysis) would enable the individual to serve in a capacity to trouble all aspects of the projects.

Occasional onsite responsibilities may include interactions with research nurses, clinical study coordinators or laboratory personnel if needed for managing clinical trial logistics.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts, practices, and policies to support many different activities related to complex proposals and scientific collaborations, both internal and external
  • Provides potential solutions to scientific challenges or makes recommendations to establish consensus among key participants
  • Assists in quality assurance of data collected by clinical trial research personnel
  • Responsible for appropriate maintenance of project databases of faculty research
  • Oversight of biospecimen management by laboratory or research staff
  • Attends or coordinates programmatic research meetings and monitors project/program progression, deliverables, timelines, and sponsor deliverables, in conjunction with research and administrative teams
  • Supports the interpretation of results and research outcomes in order to best represent research progress in presentation and graphical formats
  • Remains knowledgeable in aspects of programmatic initiatives to be able to evaluate scientific challenges that may affect the projects
  • Writes and edits scientific and other components for prioritized grant or proposal submissions
  • Establishes workflow and works closely with scientific and administrative partners (grants, finance, regulatory and compliance, and other personnel) on development, timely submission, and follow-through of projects
  • Manages the coordination of working groups to facilitate collaborations and future research endeavors
  • Facilitates post-award management of activities as they pertain to development of on-going priority proposal submissions
  • Develops, compiles, and writes scientific reports based on complex research data, and coordinates submission of summaries and progress reports to sponsors
  • Coordinates with research subject matter experts and administrators to track, compile, and present milestones and outcomes of research-associated activities
  • Assists in resource justification and utilization for current and future projects/programs
  • Performs other duties, as assigned


Education
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Healthcare/Business Administration or related field.

Preferred: PhD in a scientific discipline, healthcare, or related field

Experience
Required:
Four years administrative/financial management experience to include data gathering, grant planning, preparation to include two years of supervisory/management experience. With preferred degree, two years of experience required. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

Preferred: 3 years of experience in an academic research environment, to include data gathering, preparation, submission, and execution. Clinical trial research experience preferred.
