The mission of The University of Texas M. D. This position will work for the BTC under the ACCELERATE project of the GBM Moonshot.
JOB-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Research Laboratory Functions Prepares histology materials using established departmental or protocol specific procedures demonstrating high quality technical skills. Performs all laboratory duties following established safety guidelines. All aspects of specimen processing including sorting, identifying, accessioning and labeling specimens blocks and slides. Uses laboratory informatics system to document workflow, track and identify specimens. Cuts, stains, and coverslips specimens. Files blocks, slides, and related documents. Retrieves specimens from tissue repositories. Delivers specimens to designated protocol personnel. Prepares reagents and solutions.
Inventory & Equipment Maintenance Inventories laboratory supplies and Maintains and cleans laboratory equipment. Assists with equipment maintenance requests. Puts away supplies. Maintains clean and organized work environment and observes all laboratory guidelines.
Record Keeping Keeps highly accurate and detailed records on work in progress, daily workload, and QA records.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: With required education, five years of Histology Technician experience. With Associate's degree, three years experience in histopathology within the last ten years under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, or eligible) or an appropriately certified medical scientist. With successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Histotechnician program, one year of required experience. Histology Technician (HT) certification with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
