Position Summary

Under minimal direction of the Core Administrator, Research Associate II (RAII) performs a major role in the biospecimen support service line for clinical translational research in the areas of routine and increasingly complex biospecimen processing, secondary study project support, support of IRB 07047 with regards to biospecimen procurement, processing, accessioning, data management, storage and distribution. Interacts frequently with the Dept of Pathology Pathologists Assistants, clinical Pathologists, Principal Investigators and their laboratory staff at City of Hope.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Works on various biospecimen support projects as well as supports IRB 07047 activities, under supervision of the Core Administrator. These projects can be lab based and/or project based. Utilizes knowledge of Human Subjects Research in all activities.
  • Participates in the development of new techniques and automation in the area of biospecimen processing. Utilizes LabVantage (LIMS) for accessioning, maintenance, storage and distribution of biospecimens.
  • Effectively utilizes current best practices in regard to biospecimens.
  • Supports training and orientation of new technical staff as required.
  • Performs and/or participates in quality control, quality assurance, or quality improvement procedures.
  • Supports Principal Investigators and their support staff in the use of iLab requests. Bills requests in iLab in support of the service line.


Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree required
  • Five or more years related research/ laboratory experience with a Bachelor's degree or
  • Four or more years related research/ laboratory experience with a Master's degree
