Summary
The Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Laboratory Manager to manage and coordinate the activities of a Baylor College of Medicine laboratory to assist faculty in teaching and/or research programs in the Department of Surgery. The Laboratory Manager should have the ability to design and conduct experiments independently, analyze and interpret scientific data, and organize collected data into a form suitable for publication and future reference/replication by others by describing protocols, methods and procedures used, data summaries, and descriptions of problems encountered.

Job Duties
- Conduct experiments utilizing the following techniques: PCR, RNA/DNA/protein isolation and quantification, gel electrophoresis, flow cytometry, western blotting, isolation of tissues from rodents, CRISPR studies, lentiviral and adenoviral transductions
- Review literature and scientific material for applicable protocols
- Analyze results to determine data accuracy and validity
- Review experiments and redesign methods to correct problems or determine the cause for unexpected results; utilize statistical application software
- Provide orientation and training to laboratory staff
- Maintain and repair laboratory equipment, order supplies
- Review budget and expenditures
- Allocate the time and resources required to perform experiments
- Serve as primary interface with animal care and laboratory safety oversight committees to ensure that all standards are met
- Assist in organizing weekly meetings
- Maintain freezer inventories and ensure superlative cleanliness, organization, and safety of the laboratory
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- Five years of relevant experience, with prior supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree
- Experience supervising a lab, managing materials, reagents, instruments, and budget as well as training and teaching technical concepts to laboratory personnel
- Extensive experience with cell culture including the culture of primary cells
