The UC San Diego laboratory of William Mobley, in collaboration with Xiang-Dong Fu, jointly pursue studies focused on the mechanisms underlying the ability to convert astrocytes to neurons in situ and the potential therapeutic potential for this intervention in neurodegenerative disorders. Our work points to the existence of a population of astrocytes that convert to neurons following suppression of the RNA binding protein PTB, as reported (Nature, 2020). The position is available immediately and is located at UC San Diego, La Jolla, California. Three years of funding support with the possibility of extension, and excellent resources are available. We wish to bring innovative, productive young scholars to our labs. Postdoctoral scholars with expertise in the biology of astrocytes and in the neurobiology of neurodegenerative disorders, including disease models, are encouraged to apply. A letter of interest, a list of 2-3 references and an updated CV should be sent to wmobley@ucsd.edu.
