FMC Agricultural Solutions is seeking a highly motivated scientist to help discover new products for the control of important agricultural pest species in weeds, fungi and insects at our Stine Research Center, Newark, Delaware.  The candidate will be a member of the Chemical Genomics Group in Discovery Biology developing a range of assay systems to discover and analyze new crop protection compounds, utilizing both established and emerging technologies. While operating an independent research program, the candidate will contribute their expertise to cross-functional teams of FMC scientists, helping bring novel crop protection products to market. Applicants should be comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast-paced and adaptive research environment. 

Responsibilities:

  • Express, purify and characterize recombinant proteins and enzymes
  • Develop functional assays capable of reporting on the efficacy of synthetic small molecule effectors
  • Develop molecular analysis tools to understand the mechanisms of new small molecules, including metabolite profiling and proteomics
  • Establish target-based methods for efficient discovery of novel crop protection leads
  • Collaborate both internally and externally to develop new capabilities

Required Education:

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Enzymology or a related field with 3+ years of postdoctoral/industrial laboratory experience

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in recombinant protein production and assay development, some experience with membrane proteins preferred
  • Experience with multiple biochemical and biophysical assay methods such as UV-Vis, Fluorescence, SPR, thermal shift, and ITC
  • Experience with utilizing liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LCMS) based techniques for enzyme assays, metabolomic profiling, and proteomic analysis
  • Experience with in silico methods of virtual screening and molecule design preferred
  • Ability to demonstrate strong technical leadership on cross-functional projects and independently acquire the necessary technical expertise to effectively implement new research strategies
