Open Postdoc Position in brain imaging genetics and bioinformatics

Employer
IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI
Location
Indianapolis, Indiana
Salary
up to $55,000
Closing date

The Brain Imaging Genetics Laboratory of the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), directed by Dr. Jingwen Yan, has one opening for outstanding, highly motivated post-doctoral research associates with special interest in the areas of machine learning, human brain imaging, and genomics to play a major role in state-of-the-science integrative studies of Alzheimer's disease (AD). A strong background in machine leaning, data mining and programming is expected for this grant funded position. Knowledge in deep learning, particularly graph neural network, functional MRI, DTI, and genetics will be a plus. The project will analyze brain imaging and multiple types of genetic data for biomarker discovery and early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.

Special opportunities afforded by this fellowship include experience working directly with the Genetics Core of the NIA Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI; adni.loni.usc.edu/about/centers-cores/genetics/). We are also part of the AI4AD project (http://ai4ad.org/), a mega collaborative effort across multiple top US universities that aims to apply deep learning and machine learning for integrative analysis of imaging genetics in Alzheimer’s disease. The overarching goals of our research program are to empower the rich repositories of brain imaging and genetics data collected in Alzheimer cohorts with new enabling computational methods. These new methods are expected to help 1) achieve a better understanding of the complex causes and mechanisms leading to AD, 2) improve early detection and longitudinal monitoring by combining genomics, fluid biomarkers and advanced neuroimaging and 3) identify novel targets for diagnostic use and therapeutic intervention. Candidates will be expected to take the lead on preparing manuscripts for publication and appropriate grant proposals while collaborating on other team efforts.

As the state’s premier urban research institution, IUPUI is committed to being a welcoming campus community that reflects and enacts the values of diversity, equity and inclusion that inform academic excellence. We seek candidates who will not only enhance our representational diversity but whose research, teaching, and community engagement efforts contribute to diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning and working environments for our students, staff, and faculty. IUPUI condemns racism in all its forms and has taken an anti-racist stance that moves beyond mere statements to interrogating its policies, procedures, and practices. We hope to identify individuals who will assist in our mission to dismantle racism so that everyone has the opportunity to succeed at IUPUI.

IUPUI is the medical campus of Indiana University, located in the downtown of Indianapolis. The IU School of Medicine, Regenstrief Institute, IU Simon Cancer Center and multiple research centers make IUPUI a leader in cross-disciplinary research. In addition, Indianapolis is a host of many biopharmaceutical companies, e.g. Eli Lilly, Dow Argo Science and Roche, which offer great opportunities for collaborative research and career development. The suburban community just north of Indianapolis is frequently named the best place to live in the United States.

New employees will be provided with information regarding Indiana University's COVID-19 vaccine policy, which includes the opportunity to request an exemption. To learn more, view our COVID-19 vaccine information page.
