The Biostatistician will be located within IQuESt, the Center for Innovation in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety. We are the largest center for Health Services Research within the Southwest. We conduct high-quality scientific research that improves the health of patients across the nation, by helping to ensure the patient-centered delivery of scientific discoveries. A critical aspect of this research is to utilize quantitative and qualitative research methods to gain a fuller patient-centered understanding of the needs of patients and their experiences in the quality of care and understand how evidence-based practices are implemented throughout the healthcare system.

The Section of Health Services Research seeks a biostatistician to support its clinical research mission. This position will provide biostatistical support for principally observational research studies, including retrospective investigation within electronic health record and administrative data, inclusive of the Baylor College of Medicine and Veterans Affairs Corporate Data Warehouse, and prospective human subjects research.

Job Duties

  • Extract and subset data from complex relational databases of electronic health record and administrative data, including the Corporate Data Warehouse, and local study databases.
  • Apply statistical methods appropriate to clustered or longitudinal data, including parametric and non-parametric time-to-event analyses and marginal and multi-level models, accounting for time-varying or repeated measures, staggered entries, or missing data.
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop grant and project proposals, including translation of research aims into formal statistical hypotheses, development of statistical analysis plans, and performance of power calculations Create reports of biostatistical results.
  • Participate in manuscript preparation.
  • Assist in the development of new and maintenance of existing local REDCap study databases.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in biostatistics, bioinformatics, or related field(s)
  • Experience with the design and analysis of observational studies, especially in the context of longitudinal and repeated measures designs
  • Experience with insurance/administrative and electronic health record data
  • Experience with SQL and SAS (others such as Stata or R will be considered)
  • Knowledge or experience with causal inference methods
  • Knowledge or experience in database management, including quality control methods
