Role Summary

BioMedicine Design of Pfizer Inc. is seeking a highly motivated antibody discovery Scientist in La Jolla, CA. This Scientist level position will directly contribute towards our efforts for discovery of monoclonal antibodies using hybridoma technologies. The candidate will support different antibody discovery programs while utilizing a broad range of immunology, molecular biology and cell biology-based techniques. The duties of the job include experimental design and execution, analysis and interpretation of data, and presentation of results to the research team. This position will be exposed to the state of art technology in single cell analysis, NGS sequencing and the advanced automation system.

Role Responsibilities
  • Design and execute on all stages of experiments to generate monoclonal antibodies through hybridoma or display technology, including animal immunizations, serum titer tracking, hybridoma or immune library generation, and candidate identification.
  • Sequence the VH and VL of antibody hits, analyze antibody diversity, and choose representative clones for recombinant production.
  • Regular cell culture and maintenance. Transient expression of antibodies in mammalian cells. Small scale purification of recombinant antibodies.
  • Interface with external CROs to identify need for reagents, define timelines and scheduling to meet project goals.
  • Maintain detailed records of all experiments in ELN and using in-house databases and tracking systems
  • Trouble-shoot and optimize protocols and propose creative solutions to improve efficiency to existing processes
  • Proactively evaluate new technologies, instrumentation, and assays available from the literature or scientific meetings to improve in-house platforms


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • MS or PhD degree in a relevant scientific discipline (biology, immunology, biochemistry, cell biology etc.). PhD with 0-2 years, or MS with 4+ years.
  • The candidate must have in-depth knowledge of current state-of-the art antibody generation technologies and be able to apply this to practice at the bench
  • In depth understanding of immunology, cell biology, and molecular biology is needed as well as a thorough understanding of approaches to manipulate immune response and characterize antibodies (both binding assays and sequence analysis)
  • Demonstrated experience successfully executing antibody generation using hybridoma or display technology to identify antibody panels is required
  • Extensive experience with antibody binding assays especially ELISA, multi-color flow cytometry.
  • Strong experience in Excel, Graphpad Prism, flow cytometry analysis software is required.
  • Strong focus, motivation, and commitment to hands-on lab work is required
  • Good organizational skills, with scientific rigor and critical thinking.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • NGS related experience is a plus.
