The successful candidate would participate on an interdisciplinary team tasked with providing fit for purpose enzymes to chemistry project teams. As an NGS Assay Specialist (Associate Scientist) you will be responsible for daily lab activities encompassing NGS library preparation and building NGS assays. This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include the following: Support enzyme evolution campaigns through the development of sequencing protocols and the execution of those protocols on libraries of enzyme variants Utilize a LIMS system to track samples and analyze NGS output data Interact with bioinformatic colleagues to support NGS sequencing data pipelines Learn new technologies to improve sequencing throughput, cost, and reliability with an aim of streamlining and simplifying sequence acquisition for directed evolution campaigns Collaborate with team to provide project level guidance of best practices and strategic options during evolution campaigns, assay development, and broader platform modifications Maintaining electronic lab notebook records of all experiment work Generate conclusion reports, present data in team meetings & participate in writing of abstracts & publications Work through problems logically and apply innovative solutions (appropriate to grade) Use scientific literature and database resources in the execution of project related work Maintain customer focus, motivate self, and demonstrate a high degree of urgency Exhibit flexibility, being open to new ways of working Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of relevant molecular biology experience Minimum 1 year demonstrated expertise Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology Experience with troubleshooting experiments and assay development workflows Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Hands-on experience with NGS Library Construction Experience with high-throughput screening Hands- on experience with PCR amplification and size selection methodologies Experience with modern NGS instrumentation Understanding of protein engineering Experience with liquid handling robotics and/or integrated automation platforms Experience in processing and handling large data sets; Linux and/or scripting a major plus Why GSK?
