The lab of Dr. Kyle Eagen ( www.eagenlab.org ) at Baylor College of Medicine focuses on elucidating how DNA folds within cells and how DNA misfolding relates to human disease. Baylor College of Medicine is well known for its exceptional, innovative, and collaborative research environment and is investing significant resources in expanding interdisciplinary research in the molecular, cellular, biochemical, and genetic bases of human health and disease. Dr. Eagen's lab is dedicated to state-of-the-art molecular research using interdisciplinary approaches, the newest of technologies, and the education and training of the next generation of scientists. The lab is located in the Texas Medical Center, the largest biomedical complex in the world, immediately adjacent to Houston's vibrant Museum District and Hermann Park.

A Research Associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Kyle Eagen in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. The Research Associate will expand upon a dynamic research program dedicated to understanding the molecular basis of nuclear organization and 3D genome architecture. They will be responsible for taking on highly interdisciplinary projects and key functions in this endeavor using tools from molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and genomics including next-generation DNA sequencing technology. They will work side-by-side with Dr. Eagen to develop cutting-edge scientific skills as the lab expands into new research areas.

The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, well organized, manage time effectively, and be able to work independently as well as part of a team. They will be required to conduct lab research and assist in designing projects. Previous experience with molecular biology and/or biochemistry is essential for this position.

Job Duties

  • Follows research objectives and protocols to design, set-up, conduct, and troubleshoot experiments
  • Evaluates experimental results and recommends changes to improve data quality and validity
  • Completes mathematical calculations to assist in data analysis
  • Uses advanced level of skill, complete the following: Molecular Biology and Isolate and purify DNA, RNA, and/or protein


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field. Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in molecular biology and genomics techniques, such as Hi-C, ChIP-seq, CUT&RUN, and/or RNA-seq
  • Experience in cell biology, such as cell culture and/or CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • A record of taking initiative to solve problems and working to high-quality standards
  • Attention to detail and accurate record keeping
  • Ability to multitask, work and learn independently, and be self-motivated
