Summary

This Research Assistant supports both translational development and early phase clinical trial testing of new cell therapies for children and young adults with cancer including AML, lymphoma, solid tumors and brain tumors. The Omer lab currently consists of two postdoctoral fellows, one graduate student and one research technician in a very friendly and collegial environment. It is integrated within the larger collaborative Center for Cell and Gene Therapy with twenty investigators and more than 100 lab members and the Rooney lab. Educational activities included three weekly lab meetings, weekly journal club, a yearly scientific retreat and the option to present at conferences if desired.

Job Purpose

Performs responsible research work of a complex nature that requires establishing test methods and procedures as well as planning, completing, and occasionally supervising limited research projects in accordance with general plans approved by the supervisor.

Job Duties

  • Conducts and analyzes validation experiments to support Phase I/II clinical cell therapy trials for cancer.
  • Conducts experiments to analyze cell and tissue samples of patients treated on Phase I/II clinical trials.
  • Plans, conducts and analyzes experiments in the translational laboratory to develop novel cell therapy products - relevant techniques include cell culture, transduction, transfection, ELISpot, ELISA, nano-string/RNAseq, flow cytometry, mini-prep/maxi-prep, and basic cloning procedures.
  • Documents results of experiments in electronic lab notebooks.
  • Documents results of validation experiments according to clinical laboratory specifications.
  • Knowledge sharing and provision of technical assistance to other team members is expected, but the job does not require routine supervision of other lab members.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Two to three years' experience with standard cell culture techniques (experience with T cells/NK cell or similar, preferred)
  • Additional experience with flow cytometry, transfection, transduction, cloning techniques and ELISA will be very helpful.
