Position Summary:

Lead Technical Radiation Therapist oversees all treatment related activity and ensures the demonstration of clinical competence and professionalism of all therapist staff. Promotes, supports and participates in the implementation and education of new treatment modalities and treatment procedures. Maintains a solid knowledge base on technological advancements and changes for special procedures and advance practices, as it relates to treatment delivery, set ups and treatment devices. Rapidly adopts and champions implementation of new technology and techniques; serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for staff. Works closely with the Imaging staff, dosimetry, physics and the radiation oncologists to provide high quality patient care. Assists with human resource responsibilities, which may include interviewing and selection of new employees, staff development, resolution of employee concerns, and employee morale. Provides support to staff on the clinical functions of Aria. Provides radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by physician according to established standards and practices.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Delivers a prescribed and planned course of radiation therapy to patients of all ages; answers patient questions and explains procedure.
  • Transmits radiation therapist instructions to staff and assumes responsibility for their completion.
  • Promotes and supports new treatment procedures and programs within the department
  • Participates in the education of therapist staff on new treatment techniques and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of all treatment related aspects of the department's record-and-verify system. Provides staff support for the clinical functions of the department's record-and-verify system.
  • Reports improper equipment operation to appropriate personnel.
  • Observes Radiation Safety Measures for patients and personnel.
  • Provides clinical instruction to radiation therapy students.
  • Performs daily quality assurance checks on linear accelerators, reporting any variation in morning warm-up.
  • Assists in research and development directly related to department services.
  • Coordinates and oversees the implementation of all new treatment procedures.
  • Coordinates and oversees the clinical competency of all therapist staff
  • Informs immediate supervisor of statistical and related information on therapists performance and gaps in level of technical competency.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reviewing current literature, attending inservice meetings, and workshops.
  • Displays professional attitude and appearance.
  • Attends meetings and new patient conference as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

Minimum Education:
  • Post high school vocational or specialized training

Minimum Experience:
  • Three years as a therapist registered with the Association of Registered Radiation Therapists (ARRT)

Required Certification/Licensure:
  • Certification by the ARRT - in Radiation Therapy, CRT, CPR meets CA state requirements for operation of a MRI unit
