Summary

The Heczey Lab believes that the development of the next-generation of cell therapies will be based in novel methods including in-vivo (inside the body) genetic engineering of cells which can overcome the immune escape mechanisms employed within the tumor microenvironment to safely and effectively cure patients with cancer. The research assistant will be part of an energetic team within the combined translational laboratories of the Advance Innate Cell Therapy Center of Texas Children's and the Center for Cell and Gene Therapy of Baylor College of Medicine. The RA will be trained by experts in immunotherapy specific methods and will have the outstanding opportunity to grow by learning cutting edge techniques and develop further expertise in the field of cancer immunotherapy.

Job Duties

  • Restriction enzyme, infusion or Gibson assembly based cloning.
  • DNA, RNA and protein purification.
  • Viral particle assembly Transduction with viral and non-viral methods of white blood cells and tumor cells.
  • Flow cytometry assessment of cell phenotype.
  • Expansion and maintenance of wild type and genetically engineered white blood cells and tumor cells.
  • Functional characterization of engineered cells.
  • Analysis and presentation of laboratory results at weekly lab meetings.
  • Preparation of figures for publications, conferences and grants.
  • Documentation via electronic lab note book.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • BS or MS. in immunology, genetic engineering or related fields.
  • Flow cytometry.
  • DNA (including plasmids), RNA and Protein purification.
  • Excellent aseptic cell culture technique.
