The School of Biological Sciences (SBS) in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of New England invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in genetics and/or cellular and molecular biology, starting in August 2022. The successful candidate will join a diverse group of faculty and staff with expertise across a broad array of biological specialties including medical biology; ecology and evolutionary biology; and cellular, molecular and developmental biology.
The SBS seeks candidates who can teach introductory and upper-level lecture and laboratory courses appealing to Biology undergraduate and Master’s students. The candidate is expected to develop an active, independent research program involving undergraduate and graduate students that results in peer-reviewed publications supported by external funding. The candidate will also participate in curriculum development, academic advising, recruiting, program assessment, and service to the university.
UNE’s research infrastructure includes aquatic research labs, rodent vivarium and behavior analysis core, and histology and imaging core. Applicants utilizing our new zebrafish facility are particularly encouraged to apply. Opportunities exist to collaborate with faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences as well as in other colleges at UNE, including several university-level Centers of Excellence. In particular, candidates studying cell signaling using suitable genetic approaches may be invited to participate as a project leader in an institutional NIH center grant proposal.
A Ph.D. and post-doctoral training in biology or a related field is required. Candidates must have research experience working in an area of genetics and/or cellular and molecular biology. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and have a record of scholarly productivity; candidates with a record of competitive grant funding are preferable.
Review of applications will begin February 28, 2022 and continue until the position is filled. To learn more about this position and to apply, please visit https://une.peopleadmin.com/postings/9165
