Research Fellow - Marasco Lab

Full Time (Up to 1 day remote/week)

Exciting opportunity for an exceptional post-doc applicant to conduct research on the effects of aging on influenza vaccine responsiveness in an effort to develop durable “Universal Influenza Vaccines”. Dr. Marasco is the Lead PI of this collaborative Harvard Medical School program that will examine T cell, B cell and metabolic aspects of aging (https://marascolab.dana-farber.org/). The project will involve both conceptual and technical innovations with the collaborating labs located within short walking distance from each other. Dr. Marasco’s lab will assess metabolic and population-based changes in B cell populations of young and aged individuals post influenza vaccination, with the aim of testing the paradigm that multiple subsets of antigen-specific B cells are altered in older individuals. Conceptional innovation will be pursued by investigating both germinal center and memory origins of antigen-specific B cells, antigen-specific molecular profiling to explore the effect of immune imprinting to the critical Hemagglutinin (HA) stem epitope(s), and performing simultaneous analysis of all B cell subsets and their binding specificities to different HA epitopes. Technical innovation for this project involves functional studies with the integration of LIBRA-Seq to identify B cell subsets directed to distinct epitopes on the HA head and stem domain.

Requirements:

  • The funding available is for an initial appointment over three years and the starting date is flexible. The candidate will be expected to carry out bench research (both independently and as part of a team), participate in group discussions, and write research proposals and manuscripts.

Qualifications:

  • Strong background in immunology, B cell biology, structural biology, infectious diseases and bench experience in flow cytometry and molecular biology are encouraged to apply.
  • Background knowledge in genomics and a good knowledge of R, python and/or other programming languages is desirable, but not required.
  • Successful candidates should demonstrate a track record of research achievements and have excellent communication skills.

Please apply with a cover letter outlining research interests and a CV.
