W 3-Professorship for Developmental Neuroscience (f/m/d)

(succession Prof. Dr. D. Brandeis)

The professorship will be located at the Central Institute of Mental Health, Mannheim (Foundation under Public Law, Director: Prof. Dr. Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg, Commercial Director: Dr. Matthias Janta).

The Central Institute of Mental Health (ZI) stands for internationally outstanding research and pioneering treatment concepts in psychiatry and psychotherapy, child and adolescent psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine and addiction medicine. The distinguishing feature of the institute is its dual function as a health care and research institution. It is precisely this structure that enables the direct implementation of a translational research approach from basic research to clinical application.

The professorship should focus the neuroscientific research on the lifespan and establish its interdisciplinary by drawing on integrated psychoneurobiological mechanism-oriented models and using a translational (and transdiagnostic) research approach at the ZI and the Mannheim Medical Faculty. Primarily, the professorship will be integrated into the research focus "Understanding the mechanisms of risk, resilience, and plasticity in mental illness".

The professorship represents the field in research and teaching and is an integral part of the ongoing research priorities of the ZI and the Mannheim Medical Faculty.

We are looking for a personality with a research profile, which   reveals a focus on developmental neuroscience and overall translational research methodology, thus providing points of contact for collaborative projects with clinicians and researchers at a high international level. The professorship is incorporated into the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Requirements for the W 3 professorship in "Developmental Neuroscience" are:

  • Completed university studies in a field relevant to the research area (psychology, neuroscience or medicine or a related field).
  • Qualified Doctorate in a field relevant to the subject area and, in accordance with § 47 (2) of the Higher Education Law of the state Baden-Württemberg, a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or a comparable academic qualification
  • Proven research success in the field of developmental neuroscience through third-party funding and publications
  • International research experience as well as participation in translational and transdiagnostic research projects in the field of developmental neuroscience
  • Leadership experience in multi-professional scientific research groups

The appointment is a joint appointment of the University of Heidelberg and the Central Institute of Mental Health Mannheim in the Jülicher Modell. The position is available permanently. Upon fulfillment of the general requirements under civil service law and budgetary law, the appointment to the professorship will normally be made directly on the basis of a lifetime civil servant status (Beamtenverhältnis auf Lebenszeit).
