The California Institute of Technology invites applications for the position of Director of the Richard N. Merkin Institute for Translational Research. The position is a tenured faculty position at the Full Professor rank and is open to exceptional candidates pursuing research in all areas of translational science and engineering. The Directorship comes with duties and responsibilities associated with guiding the vision of the Merkin Institute as well as administration of a generous budget. Candidates with strong commitments to research and teaching excellence are encouraged to apply. It is envisioned that the Directorship will be for a five-year term with the possibility of renewal. The Professorship is a tenured position, and is contingent upon completion of all requirements for a Ph.D. in a field related to translational science.


The Merkin Institute was established in 2019 through a generous gift of Dr. Richard N. Merkin, founder of the Heritage Provider Network and member of the Caltech Board of Trustees (https://breakthrough.caltech.edu/caltech-mitr/). The mission of the Merkin Institute is to help Caltech scientists and engineers transform their breakthroughs into advances in human health (https://merkin.caltech.edu). It will enhance resources for every step in translational science, from basic discovery through clinical collaboration and the introduction of new treatments.
