The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zurich invites applications for an
Assistant Professorship in Reproductive Medicine and Genome Editing, which will be integrated in the Department of Reproductive Endocrinology at the University Hospital Zurich. The successful candidate will be an embryologist or biologist with expertise in genome editing technologies, who aims to address fundamental or applied questions related to reproduction and genetic diseases. Scientists that develop resources and technologies to evaluate safety and efficiency of genome editing technologies in germ cells are in particular encouraged to apply.

A PhD and at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience with expertise in genome editing, and in stem cell biology or embryology are required. Expertise in the generation of genetically modified animals using CRISPR technology is of advantage. In accordance with Swiss legislation that does not permit research on genome editing in human germ line cells, expected research activities will focus on in vitro experiments in stem cells and in vivo studies in appropriate animal models. A strong publication track record related to the intended project is expected.

Particularly important for this position is a highly integrative personality, willingness to cooperate with the research partners and a sense for overarching goals.

The Professorship will be embedded within the University Research Priority Program (URPP) “Human Reproduction Reloaded", which is an interdisciplinary research program evaluating causes and consequences of today's reproductive medicine including a potential use of genome editing in human reproduction. The tasks of the professorship are focused on research, but also involve participation in teaching programs, research colloquia and the Executive Committee of the URPP. Due to the interdisciplinary design of the URPP, successful applicants are expected to engage in future cooperation with other members of the URPP working on ethical, legal, or societal aspects of genome editing. Potential research areas of interest include but are not limited to: development and assessment of novel genome editing technologies, their use for targeted therapy of genetic diseases, and the study of genetic interactions underlying human diseases. The research will be focused on germ cells.

After the end of the assistant professor period, the candidate will have the opportunity, given appropriate qualification, to continue as the head of basic research at the Department of Reproductive Endocrinology

The University of Zurich strives to increase the percentage of women in leading positions. Therefore, qualified female researchers are encouraged to apply.

Please submit your electronic application for this position by February 22nd, 2022 via Faculty Recruiting Tool.
