Position Summary:

Assists the Supervisor in managing the workflow within the Radiology Department, as well as the application of some of its Quality Control programs. Provides radiologic services to patients 80% of the time.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Assists the Supervisor in managing the workflow within the Radiology Department, as well as the application of some of its Quality Control programs. Provides radiologic services to patients 80% of the time.
  • Shares with the Supervisor the responsibility of coordinating the technical radiologic services of the X-ray Department.
  • Reviews the operation of equipment in apparent failure, and refers service needs to the Supervisor. Communicates with service engineers in describing equipment failures, and in coordinating repairs. Acts as service contact for all X-ray equipment in absence of Supervisor.
  • Maintains inventory control, storage, and routing of supplies.
  • Reviews scheduled procedures, monitors incoming orders, reviews priorities, and modifies staffing assignments accordingly.
  • Acts as a technical resource for other technologists in planning and executing radiologic procedures.
  • Performs radiographic procedures, both general and within designated specialties.
  • Evaluates exam for technical quality and completeness and submits for review via PACS system.
  • Prepares room and equipment for patient.
  • Assists the radiologist, cardiologist, and/or clinician during radiologic procedures, including invasive and non-invasive studies.
  • Observes patient for any unusual reactions or events, before, during and after procedure. Takes appropriate action following established guidelines.
  • Informs the patient of the procedure to be done, and instructs the patient on participation required to produce an optimal exam. Transports unit to patient's room when necessary.
  • Reviews orders for Diagnostic Imaging tests for appropriateness, modifies order according to policy or reviews with radiologist when non-standard.
  • Ensures compliance with JCAHO standards and state and federal regulations.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reviewing current literature, attending inservice meetings, and workshops.
  • Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, includingadherence to theworkplaceCode of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

Minimum Education:

High School or equivalent

Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements

Minimum Experiences:

3 years experience in radiology department, preferably within a hospital setting

Required Course/Training:

Accredited program in radiologic technology

Required Certification/Licensure:

CRT (Radiography and Fluoroscopy); ARRT; CPR
