Position Summary

The Assistant Research Professor, Bioinformatics or Mathematics, will work in a team environment in Andrea Bild's lab studying tumor ecosystem diversity to uncover theabundance, genotypes, and phenotypes of both cancer and non-cancer tumor-associated cells in patient tumors, and to interrogate signaling communication between cancer and non-cancer cells in the tumor microenvironment to identify vulnerable lines of communication that can be blocked to overcome resistance. The project will focus on our funded NIH Cancer Systems Biology Consortium (https://csbconsortium.org/) program at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center and provide exciting opportunities to engage with top scientists and cutting-edge genomic research.

Key Responsibilities include:

For this position, the scientist will lead efforts to analyze high throughput single cell RNA sequencing and bulk DNA- and RNA-sequencing data from hundreds of patient tumors with clinical outcomes (for reference, please read: https://www.nature.com/articles/s43018-021-00215-7). S/he will manage the analysis and interpretation of genomics data from patient cohorts in order to understand why cancer progresses.The successful candidate will also contribute to the development data workflow processes and pipelines. S/he will also have the opportunity to assist in training investigators and new users to use bioinformatics applications and databases.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • PhD degree in bioinformatics or equivalent and experience with NGS sequencing data lead research projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve biologically relevant problems requiring novel applications of exploratory data analysis.
  • Ability to analyze data of high complexity by applying sound statistical and commonly accepted bioinformatics methods to -omics data with a collaborative project team.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellence in scripting languages (phtyon, perl) and with R.
  • Knowledge of hardware including server.
  • Multiple first author publications required.
