Summary

Baylor College of Medicine is a leading research institution dedicated to conducting groundbreaking research and we invite you to join our team. Here is how you can contribute! The Bioinformatics Research Laboratory (BRL) ( http://genboree.org/site/ ) at BCM has an exciting Software Engineering and Programming Associate position to develop resources for the global scientific community as part of the Extracellular RNA Communication Consortium (ERCC) ( https://exrna.org/ ). ERCC is an NIH funded consortium focused on understanding the role of novel extracellular RNAs (exRNAs) and exosomes (exRNA carriers), and their potential use as biomarkers. An important focus of the project is to develop new software resources and computational methods for biomarker identification and characterization. The Software Engineering and Program Associate will work on projects with collaborating laboratories at leading medical centers to develop and extend the ExRNA Atlas ( https://exrna-atlas.org/ ) and associated web-based tools. To develop these resources, you will evaluate requirements and perform feasibility studies for new applications using a variety of data, implement improvements to data submission pipelines, evaluate resource requirements for conducting computational analyses, and implement and test solutions while working closely with project team members to solicit user feedback. A goal for these resources will be their application to important biological and medical questions for publication in high impact scientific journals.

The Software Engineering and Programming Associate will play an important role in evaluating, developing, and implementing software within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded Extracellular RNA Communication Consortium. The areas of focus will be web services, automated processing pipelines, and developing a data repository. The ideal candidate will have Ruby and/or NodeJS experience.
