Summary

The Department of Medicine, Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas is seeking a Research Associate that will support research initiatives at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. Will be responsible for planning, completing and occasionally supervising limited research projects in accordance with general plans approved by the investigator. Will report directly to the PI to ensure progress of the research is consistent with the study time lines of the protocol. This position is 100% funded by the NIH and VA funded grants.

Job Duties

  • Assists in research experiments, such as Elisas for bone turnover markers, hormone assays.
  • Performs and analyzes bone mineral density.
  • Performs and analyzes bone microarchitecture and bone strength.
  • Performs DNA and RNA isolation.
  • Performs genotyping and gene expression studies, Elisa assay, flow cytometry and cell cultures.
  • Assists in sample processing and storage of samples.
  • Assists in the writing of abstracts, manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Develops and modifies computer programs.
  • Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment and environment.
  • Assigns activities to less experienced research staff.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field. Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Great communication skills, well-organized, pleasant personality and works well with human research participants.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft office.
  • Team player and reliable.
  • Willing to learn and develop new skills.
