Bates College a private, highly selective, residential college in Lewiston, Maine is devoted to undergraduate study in the liberal arts. The Department of Biology invites applications for a full time Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology, beginning August 1, 2022.  This position has the potential for renewal for up to three years pending successful performance. Ph.D. is required by the start date.

Teaching responsibilities (5 courses) will include an upper-level course in genetics and other courses in the candidates area of specialty. Catalog descriptions of current courses can be found here. The department would be interested in a wide-range of candidates who may specialize in system, ecosystem, or population-level questions or are interested in organismal, cellular, or molecular questions. We would also expect this person to mentor research projects with undergraduates in their area of expertise

The search committee expects applicants to identify their strengths and experiences in these areas and describe how their teaching can further this goal. As well, the department expects to support the success of visiting professors through mentorship and professional development opportunities.
