The Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC; www.glbrc.org) is recruiting for several postdocs in plant and microbial sciences at UW-Madison. The campus and GLBRC provides an outstanding collaborative scientific training environment for talented and motivated individuals who seek to use state of the art interdisciplinary approaches to engineer bioenergy plants and microbes. Each project combines genomics, systems, synthetic and computational biology, with metabolism, enzymology and genetics, using design-test-learn cycles to generate valuable chemicals from plant biomass. Research with Patricia Kiley (10.1128/AEM.00808-21), Dan Noguera (https://doi.org/10.1128/msystems.00755-20), or Tim Donohue (10.1128/AEM.01742-21) will provide training in engineering single microbes or microbial communities. Positions with John Ralph (https://biochem.wisc.edu/faculty/ralph) provide training in synthetic chemistry, plant cell wall analytics, and reaction chemistries. Questions about individual projects should be sent to Patricia Kiley (pjkiley@wisc.edu), Tim Donohue (tdonohue@bact.wisc.edu), Dan Noguera (noguera@engr.wisc.edu), or John Ralph (jralph@wisc.edu).

These positions provide tremendous preparation for a future career as a research leader in developing clean energy technology to address climate change. The successful candidates will be mentored by faculty who are committed to the trainee’s scientific and professional development. Opportunities also exist for participation in university organized professional development (https://postdoc.wisc.edu/) or teaching programs (https://delta.wisc.edu/), and to mentor junior researchers. The positions provide competitive salaries based on experience, and health benefits. Candidates should be within three years of a PhD degree at the start of the position.

Funding is available now for several positions and additional openings are expected later in 2022. Applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. Applications should consist of a single pdf file that includes a letter that highlights past research accomplishments, how your previous experience will benefit this project, and how this research aligns with your career goals; a curriculum vitae; and contact information for three references.

UW-Madison is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and is committed to be an institution of diversity and inclusivity.
