In the rapidly changing environment of the 21st century, there is an increasing need to forge bridges across disciplines to address emerging challenges and problems.  Through its commitment to academic excellence, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has developed world-class strengths in many subjects over its short 30-year history.  With a strong track record of cultivating high end talents and nurturing future leaders for academia and industry, HKUST is well positioned to craft an innovative approach to cross-disciplinary education and research in its Guangzhou campus, HKUST(GZ), and meet the needs of an ever-evolving world.

The Bioscience and Biomedical Engineering Thrust (https://hkust-gz.edu.cn/academics/four-hubs/systems-hub/bioscience-and-biomedical-engineering) at HKUST(GZ) now invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions at all ranks (Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor). Although applications from outstanding individuals in any area of life sciences and bioengineering will be considered, the Thrust especially encourages applications in neuroscience, stem cell biology, cell and tissue engineering, and computational biology.  The Thrust is expected to grow substantially in the next few years in terms of academic staff, programs, resources, and facilities.

Applicants must have a PhD degree in relevant fields.  The appointees are expected to establish an independent and internationally competitive research program.  Teaching responsibilities include postgraduate and undergraduate courses.

Founded in 1991 as the first research university in Hong Kong, HKUST consistently ranks among the top 50 universities in the world and the world’s best young university in Times Higher Education and QS ranking.  HKUST(GZ) is situated in the center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, one of the most vibrant and dynamic regions in the world. Teaching and research will be carried out in an outstanding intellectual environment that is rich in technical resources. English is the medium of instruction.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

Salary is highly competitive of international standard and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Generous start-up funding, ample laboratory space, and excellent research equipment and support will be provided.

All posts are tenure-track Mainland China appointments to be offered by the HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the local employment laws and regulations.  Appointment at Professor rank and some at Associate Professor rank will be made on substantive basis while initial appointment to other tenure-track faculty ranks will be made on a 3-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
