The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time non-tenure-track Professor of the Practice position in Environmental Engineering. Applicants for this position shall have extensive background in environmental engineering practice. Specific areas of undergraduate and graduate instruction served by this position include:

  • Integrated capstone design
  • Environmental engineering design including process engineering
  • Principles in environmental engineering
  • One or more specialty areas within environmental engineering (e.g., water quality, air quality, biological processes, contaminated site remediation, energy management in environmental systems, sustainability)

The successful candidate will leverage their expertise, in conjunction with the expertise of the environmental and civil engineering faculty and their professional network, such as recruiting technical experts for guest lectures and seminars, to advance the teaching of creativity and innovation in environmental engineering within our curriculum. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will participate in the development and operation of new outreach and engagement activities between faculty, students and industry. An indication of the applicant to continue participating in engineering practice through work on engineering projects, consulting on engineering projects, etc. will be a benefit.

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech currently has approximately 610 undergraduate students, 394 graduate students, 51 tenure-track faculty members, three Professors of the Practice, and one Lecturer. Women comprise 51% of the undergraduate population, and 18% of the overall student population identifies as a member of under-represented minority groups.  Fourteen faculty members are women, and five faculty members identify as a member of under-represented minority groups. Eighteen faculty members hold endowed chairs or professorships with 33% of them being women faculty. The 2021 US News and World Report rankings place the Civil Engineering undergraduate program at #2 and the Environmental Engineering undergraduate program at #3 in the country. The corresponding graduate programs are ranked #2 and #6, respectively.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • At least ten(10) to fifteen(15) years of experience and leadership in the environmental engineering profession
  • Have rich and extensive backgrounds in fields and disciplines related to the school or college of appointment at the Institute.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Professional engineering, or other applicable, licensure.
  • Terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) in environmental engineering or a closely related field;
  • Experience developing partnerships with business and industry leaders in the public and private sectors.
  • National/international reputation for excellence, demonstrated by active participation in professional organizations such as AWWA, AWMA, WEF, IWA, AEESP, AAEES, etc.
