Why Patients Need You

Pfizer's purpose is to deliver breakthroughs that change patients' lives. Research and Development is at the heart of fulfilling Pfizer's purpose as we work to translate advanced science and technologies into the therapies and vaccines that matter most. Whether you are in the discovery sciences, ensuring drug safety and efficacy or supporting clinical trials, you will apply cutting edge design and process development capabilities to accelerate and bring the best in class medicines to patients around the world.

What You Will Achieve

The interleukin receptor-associated kinases 4 and 1 (IRAK4 and IRAK1) are key nodes in the response to pathogens (innate immunity) and in autoimmune and inflammatory disease. At Pfizer we have developed the first selective inhibitor of IRAK4 to advance to clinical trials as a potentially transformative therapy for diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, SLE, and cancer. IRAK4 and IRAK1 a critical components of the toll-like receptor (TLR) and interleukin receptor signaling cascade that detect both pathogens and self-produced inflammatory proteins such as IL1 and IL18. However, a clear mechanistic understanding of the IRAKs in inflammatory signaling has been elusive and is the subject of intense interest in both academia and the pharmaceutical industry. Gaining a clearer understanding of the mechanistic role of IRAK kinase activity is critical for the further development of IRAK inhibitors and the identification of other potential therapeutic targets in inflammation. The post-doctoral fellow will utilize Pfizer's extensive resources and world leading expertise in innate immunity to better elucidate the role of IRAK4 in human biology and disease.

How You Will Achieve It

- Design and perform experiments designed to understand the role of the IRAK kinases in IL1 and TLR signaling.

- Collaborate and interact with external researchers in academia to investigate the role of IRAK4 in innate immune signaling and human disease

- Collaborate and interact with Pfizer colleagues in other therapeutic areas, chemistry, PDM, and bioinformatics to understand the biology around IRAK4.

- Present work at internal and external meetings and symposia

- Take the lead on drafting, writing, and submitting papers for academic journals detailing findings
