The KLemonLab is hiring a Bioinformatics Analyst I to perform bioinformatic-based projects to investigate microbe-microbe and microbe-host interactions in the human nasal microbiome.

Job Duties

  • Plan and perform bioinformatic research on the human nasal microbiome.
  • Evaluate and analyze data using bioinformatics and statistics.
  • Maintain the lab NAS, server and computers.
  • Maintain meticulous standards for documentation of all analyses.
  • Develop, optimize and/or maintain analysis workflows for microbial pangenomics, microbial transcriptomics, metapangenomics, metabolic modeling and dual host-microbe RNAseq.
  • Provide technical assistance for bioinformatic research by graduate students and research staff.
  • Prepare figures and write methods and results related to analysis performed.
  • Assist in grant proposal preparation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Genetics, Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, microbiology, genetics, physics, bioengineering or chemical biology.
  • Master's degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics or other related field of biology or microbial sciences.
  • Strong mathematical analytical skills, including statistics.
  • At least one scripting language, such as R or Python, and associated packages for data analysis and visualization. As well as *nix-based command line tools.
  • Comfortable using version control tools (Git/GitHub).
  • Experience in high performance computing environment.
  • Experience in handling next-generation sequencing data.
  • Experience in analyzing microbiome metagenomic datasets.
  • Experience in metabolic modeling analysis.
  • Experience in handling multi-omics data, including metabolomics and proteomics.
  • Experience as a teaching assistant, tutor or mentor for students learning bioinformatic approaches.
