Postdoctoral fellow positions are available in the lab of Dr. Xianhua Piao at the Weill Institute for Neurosciences at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). The Piao Lab studies brain disorders, such as autism and neurodegeneration, from the perspectives of brain development, glial-glial, and glial-neuronal interactions. Using a variety of methods, including human subject-derived pluripotent stem cell and mouse models, and transcriptomic, cellular, molecular, and biochemical approaches, the lab aims to define how cell-cell interactions control brain circuit formation and how their dysregulation contributes to neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. For additional information about our ongoing National Institutes of Health-funded research projects, please see http://www.piaolab.org. The Piao Lab is looking forward to moving into the newly built Joan and Sanford I. Weill Neurosciences Building at Mission Bay in the Spring of 2022. The state-of-the-art open lab space enables close interactions and collaborations with top neuroscientists such as Anna Molofsky, Graeme Davis, Matthew State, Tomasz Nowakowski, Susanna Rosi, and Eric Huang, to name a few.
Setting/Salary/Benefits: Our laboratory is in an academic setting at UCSF, a dynamic and internationally recognized research institution with extensive infrastructural and core facility support. Postdoctoral appointees receive a starting salary based on the NIH NRSA guidelines and a generous benefits package. In addition, postdoctoral appointees pursue independent research with additional professional development provided through the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (https://postdocs.ucsf.edu).
Qualifications: Candidates should hold a Ph.D., with preference given to applicants with both a strong interest in and research training relevant to the areas of neural development and diseases, stem cell biology, and transcriptional regulation. Successful applicants will manage independent research projects including aspects like experimental design, written dissemination of findings through first author publications, and oral presentation of research findings in institutional forums and at national/international conferences. Interested candidates should send a cover letter describing past research accomplishments and future research interests, a current CV, and a list of 2 reference contacts to Dr. Xianhua Piao (xianhua.piao@ucsf.edu).
