Professorship (W3) for Biology with a focus on Resistance in Plant-Pathogen Interactions

Institution: Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences
Salary level: W3
Commencement of duties: as soon as possible
Application deadline: 2022-02-10

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to teach and focus their research in the fields of infection biology and the biology of resistance.

The successful candidate must have outstanding scientific qualifications in the fields of biotrophic interactions and plant infection and be internationally renowned in this research area. It is also expected that the successful candidate will use interdisciplinary approaches to examine both sides of biotrophic interactions: the molecular infection mechanisms of the pathogen as well as the critical regulatory hubs in the host plant’s immune system. The successful candidate will be expected to focus on researching pathogenic effectors and their effects, especially in crop plants, in order to better understand the fundamental molecular basis of plant defense. The application of noninvasive methods for phenotyping is desired. The successful applicant is expected to engage in the biotechnological transfer of research in order to establish molecular tools for plant research and, specifically, for enhancing plant defenses against pathogens.

The successful candidate is expected to take part in shaping the University’s core research area Infection Research. The successful candidate is expected to develop cooperation with other faculties (especially with the Faculty of Medicine), with biomedical nonuniversity research institutions (Heinrich Pette Institute Leibniz Institute for Experimental Virology, Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine, Research Center Borstel), and with the Centre for Structural Systems Biology.
