Michigan State University invites applications and nominations for the Chairperson of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB). The Chair will lead a department of more than 40 tenure-track faculty members with internationally recognized research programs in diverse areas, and a growing number of fixed-term faculty in teaching and research. The highest expectation for success as BMB Chair is to support the department mission to discover and transfer new knowledge about the molecular basis of life through basic biomolecular science research and cross-disciplinary research and training. The Chair will be expected to work within the highly collaborative research environment across departments and training programs of the rich scientific community at Michigan State University. The Chair will also be expected to maintain an externally funded research program. Research at Michigan State is supported by state-of-the-art core facilities, expert administrative and scientific staff, and a strong commitment to research growth and excellence at every level of University administration.
Candidates should be qualified to hold the rank of tenured Full Professor. We seek an outstanding scientist and scholar with an actively funded academic research program. Evidence of scientific leadership, vision, creativity, excellence in teaching and mentoring, and strong interpersonal skills are essential qualifications.
