POSTDOC (COMPUTATIONAL NEUROSCIENCE)

Location: Wrocław, Poland

Ref. no. PD/CN/2021

A position is available in the Laboratory of Astrocytes Biology, led by Dr. Michał Ślęzak, at dynamically growing Center of Life Sciences and Biotechnology at Łukasiewicz-PORT. The group focuses on neuro-glia interactions related to neuropsychiatric phenotypes. Our interdisciplinary research aims to identify cell-autonomous pathways for better understanding of trait-specific neuropathologies and to propose novel therapeutical targets.

We have recently showed that astrocytes are mediating behavioral effects of acute and chronic stress and we identified a set of potential regulators engaged. We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher to broaden our think-tank with his expertise in applying computational tools to analyze animals’ behavior. The ideal candidate has a strong record of scientific publications and is capable of ‘out of the box’ approaches to ‘inside the box’ activity. Analytical skills and independent work culture are mandatory.

Major responsibilities:

  • Designing and implementation of projects aiming to resolve the contribution of individual genes to behavioral phenotypes related to neuropsychiatric disorders.
  • Establishing and supervision of a platform for automated tracking of social behavior, in collaboration with leading scientists in the field.
  • Adopting tools for behavioral data analysis, interpretation and visualization.
  • Keeping an industry-standard work documentation.
  • Preparation of scientific articles, grants and conference presentations.
  • Communication with the interdisciplinary team of researchers.
  • Active contribution to collaborative projects with external academic and industrial partners.

Expectations:

  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Biology, Computer Science, Physics)
  • Matlab, Python and/or R programming
  • Strong interest in systems neuroscience
  • Very good work organization skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English

Additional preferred skills

  • Experience in quantitative analysis of behavior in rodents
  • The use of genetic engineering in rodents
  • FELASA / POLLASA certificate

Our offer:

  • Full Time contract at the position of Chief Specialist.
  • Competitive salary and social benefits.
  • Scientific and organizational support.
  • A friendly, inspiring, interdisciplinary environment.
  • Contact with broad network of international collaborators within academia and top pharma companies.
  • We subsidies private medical care.

Candidates are requested to submit:

  • 1-page cover letter explaining the reasons of interest to join our team.
  • Curriculum Vitae outlining scientific interests, research achievements, a record of publications, future personal goals and extra-scientific passions.
  • 1-2 reference letters.

Application deadline: till 16th of February 2022
